New Year's Resolutions

As 2012 comes to a close, I would like to encourage everyone to do a few things, as much as possible moving forward into 2013.

1. Hug, kiss, and tell your loved ones that you love them more often. With the horrific events that happened this year that resulted in the senseless murders of so many adults and children. We all know that life is short but as of lately, life is being taken for granted at an alarming rate.

2. Be grateful. It is harder to take things for granted when you are mindful and grateful of what you have and where you are in life. This is a statement that we hear a lot but it is so true: there is someone that is worse off than you, no matter your situation. Hitting zero is different for everyone but don't let truly hitting zero (homeless, no family or friends to turn to, unable to do anything for yourself because you don't have even one penny, digging through the garbage for scraps and materials to use to keep warm and make shelter, feeling more hopeless than a penny with a hole it it) be when you start to appreciate and be grateful for what you once had. And don't just be grateful for the material things because those just go away once you are gone and often times before. If you still have your parents be grateful. So many babies lost their parents in 9/11 before they even had a chance to make a lasting memory of them. Be grateful for family, love, food (in moderation of course). Being grateful keeps you humble and gives you more of an open mind when it comes to helping others.

3. At least once per day, stop whatever you are doing, close your eyes, think of something pleasant (or something that you are grateful for), inhale deeply, slowly exhale, open your eyes, and smile. This little technique takes less than one minute but can be very useful in relieving stress. It refreshes you and slows you down a bit so that you don't just rush through your day and your life.

4. Whenever you see a Veteran or someone currently enlisted in the armed services, thank them. They did not have to make the sacrifice to keep us safe and with the freedoms that we often neglect. They are so under appreciated.

That is all for now loves. Until next time!

I'm Back!!!!

Greeting! Greeting! Greetings!

It has been such a long time since I last posted. Been busy with school. So happy that I will be done this coming April! I hope that all has been great with all who read my posts. Oh, and happy holidays!

Soooo, here is what's new. First, (I am oh so very excited about this one), Deon and Dion Fashions is adding a men's line that will be called, well, Deon and Dion Fashions Men. The line will feature neckties and hankies and further down the line, dress shirts. The thought came to me because I made my grandfather a tie for his Christmas present. One of my uncles (he really like to dress up), asked me if I can do tie and hankie sets and/or shirt, tie, and hankie sets. I said sure (anything is possible)! On my way back to my mom's, that this is something that I can really do. I did a search on Etsy and didn't find to many tie and hankie sets and absolutely no shirt, tie, and hankie set even though you can find them in the stores like that. I wanted to add women's clothing to my line this spring/summer, but I may put that off until next year because of the new men's line.

Second, I do not remember the last time that I worked out. I know that I have gained. I have not been on the scale to actually look at the number. So I will be back on my weight loss journey and I will document it here for you all. I said this before but I would really like to create a community where we help and support each other because weight loss can be a daunting tasks and sometimes down right frustrating. The only reason that I have for not staying on top of my workouts is that I was being lazy and was tired of my body being sore. It is soo easy to stop and when you think about it, it can be really hard to keep going. I have been struggling with my weight for years and I am determined to not let myself get any bigger than what I am.  I would like to get a trainer but can't afford it right now so I am going to have to push myself. You are going to have to push me and I will be here to push and encourage you. I really hope that not too many of you have fallen off the weight loss wagon like I did. Even if you did, let's jump back on it together and take control of this two-horse drawn carriage and not let Food (horse 1) and Lack of Exercise (horse 2) control us.

So tell me, how have thing been for you?

That is all for now loves. Until next time!

Being able to vote on the laws and people that govern you is what the American Revolution and the fight for Civil Rights for all were about.

Football Season Is Here!!!!

Yes, I am a huge football fan. My Sundays have been very boring and bland since the Superbowl. I go through this vicious cycle every year....a spring and summer of epicly boring Sundays. But that did allow me to get more work done for my shop. So now I have to try to squeeze more in on Fridays and Saturdays for creating and scheduling posts and updates on Fridays. Well, it will be just Saturdays for a little while as we are getting into our busy season at my day job. Plus stay on top of my school work, keep up on my Fantasy Football team (yes, I have one and it is serious!) and get ready for the holiday season (which I am hoping will be big for me). I am getting tired just thinking about all of that.

So back to football. The Dallas Cowboys is my favorite teams. I hate the New York Jets with a strong passion. I am just now getting into college football. Don't have a favorite team there yet.

I am watching the Lions vs. the Rams as I am writing this and Megatron just got a big catch and I yelled "yes" and started clapping and completely freaked Fifi (my cat) out! Poor thing. She will get used to her mom acting crazy on Sundays. lol

Anyway, I just wanted to express what a huge football fan I am! My weeks feel complete now! Do I have any other football loving followers???

Oh, and shout out to Shannon Eastin for being the first female referee to regulate a NFL regular season game!!!!! If I didn't have a thing for football players I would think about pursuing that career. Oh the trouble that I would get into!!!! lol

Until next time loves!!

Weight Loss Journey: Week 8

Hey everyone!!! Hope things have been great!

Since my last weigh-in, I have lost 0.3 lbs this week. Hey, a loss is a loss no matter how small!!! Still moving in the right direction. My goal is to be under 250 by the end of this month and I have 3.7 lbs to go!!!!

I got back into working out at home and went on a six mile walk yesterday. Also, once I finished scheduling my posts and updates for the week, I would run in place or do jumping jacks as fast and hard as I could during the commercial breaks. There will be a weight loss tip post about taking advantage of every minute, especially commercial breaks during your favorite shows later this week.

So I stocked my fridge with fruits and bags of salad for this week. I took a tip from a family friend of mine. She told me that everything that a person needs from the grocery store are in the outer aisles. Think about it, your bread (preferably whole grain), fresh fruits and veggies, dairy, meats, and whole foods are usually all on the walls of the store. Your beans, rice (brown rice), and whole grain pasta are usually found in the first two aisle from the produce section. That is the usual set up of a grocery store, however the one that is closest to my house has a very backwards set up. I believe they want to continue for their shoppers to be fat. The first thing that you see when you walk in are chips and cookies (my down fall). But I was strong!!!

How have you done this week? Make any progress? Have any tips to share? I would love to hear about them. Email me at

Until next time loves!!!

Weight Loss Summary: Week 7

Good evening everyone!!

This post is later than what I normally do. But in the news of a recent death and the mode that it put my mine in, I felt to post something at this very moment.

News just broke about an hour or so ago that Michael Clarke Duncan has past from a heart attack. I loved everything about this guy. From his deep baritone voice to his gentle giant personality both on and off screen to his comedic moments. Did you know that he loved cats??? Most wouldn't expect that from such a big guy.

Now to the mode that the news of his death put me in. Duncan died from a heart attack. Being overweight (not that he was overweight since he was mostly muscle) often leads to heart attacks and strokes. I have not actually worked out in over one week. Yes, I need a whoppin'. So after the cause of his death set in and looking at my own overweight situation, I put on my workout shoes, and did one of my favorite workouts...The Mike Tyson Squats. If you don't know what they are, click here. I did one more set then what I was doing before, which is progress (I am at 10 now)!!!! I love this workout because it worked the larger muscle groups in your body (the three glute muscles, quads, and hamstrings) and it gets your heart rate up. Larger muscle groups burn more calories. Plus I read in a Women's Health article that strength training wins over cardio for losing weight and keeping it off.

I am not even going to bother getting on the scale this week as I have been eating pizza for the last three days. I am a little disappointed in myself but I am motivated to get my rear into gear! lol.

I hope you all have had a better weight loss week than what I had.

Until next time loves!!!

What's The Fuss With Natural Hair

I came upon the article below about people getting on Solange Knowles about her natural hair (the link to the article is below). Some say that her natural hair is always looks unkept. I have natural hair and I do not carry a pic or any type of comb in my hair. I can't speak for Solange, but I prefer a more wild unkept look to my hair. Honestly, that is the more natural state of my hair. It is not in a perfect afro and if I even think of trying to force it to do so, my hair is just like "whatever".

Someone said that Ms. Knowles rocks a natural wig or weave more than she rocks her own natural hair. NEWS FLASH: THERE ARE A LOT OF WOMEN THAT WEAR A WIG OR WEAVE INSTEAD OF THEIR OWN HAIR, REGARDLESS OF RACE OR HAIR TYPE!!!! If they didn't, then the business of hair weaves, extensions, or whatever else it may be called would not my a multi-billion dollar business industry!!!! Does it really matter that her hair is natural??? Is there some unwritten rule with those (more so Black women) that do not wear natural hair that those who are natural are not supposed to wear weaves ever??? I really do not understand.

People are so quick to criticize what they either don't understand or know nothing about. I really do wish that they would shut up.

I am done ranting about that now.

Until next time loves!!!!

Solange Knowles: Quit picking on my natural hair!

Weight Loss Summary: Week 6

So I lost the 1 pound that I gained last week. Which puts me back at 254 lbs. This is the closest that  I have been to 250 lbs in a very long time and I am thinking about kicking it into overdrive the next couple of weeks in hopes of getting under to 250 lbs.

So as I mentioned last week, I made a YouTube playlist of different workout videos. There is Zumba, Salsa, strength training, in-home walking, some Jillian Micheal,  Bob Harper, and more. Each video is anywhere from 10 minutes to 50 minutes. There is a good variety here. As time goes on I will add more videos to the playlist. I will share the link below. If you see ore know of some videos that you would like to see added (this workout playlist is for any and everyone), just let me know.

If you or someone you know has a weight loss success story that you/they want to share, please contact me. I would love to do feature stories about that.

Here is the link to the playlist. Tell me what you think! I subscribed to a couple of the trainers channels. If you like them then do the same.

Until next time loves!!!!
